Just go Nadine!

Just when you think that politicians have stopped shooting themselves in the foot along comes Nadine Dorries to show that they are even more out of touch than we thought, Nadine has decided to enter a reality TV called "I`m a celebrity, get me out here" and according to Con Home she will collect 40k for it.

Now lets just put to one side that 40k over what the average wage is in the UK and that she is already paid 66k ( plus expenses ) a year to represent here constituents ( and also the fact she could be away on other side of world for 4 weeks) .

Con home states

"The ITV audience for 'Celebrity' varies from about ten million to a peak of sixteen million. It's not clear to me how much politics she'll be able to discuss but her hope is that she'll be able to introduce herself to an audience that would never tune into Question Time, the Daily Politics or perhaps even a main news bulletin. She argues that more people watch and vote in reality shows than in many elections. If that's where the people are, that's where she thinks MPs should be too."

The bit that gets me is this

" She argues that more people watch and vote in reality shows than in many elections. If that's where the people are, that's where she thinks MPs should be too."

Let me give my two pence worth, Voters and non voters are well aware of politicians and politics in general, in fact with the interweb many learn the truth a lot quicker these days. One of the main reasons people don't vote is that some thing is because politicians are seen (rightly ) to have their snouts firmly in the trough, some can get used to politicians lying and breaking their promises ( its what politicians do) , but to abandon your constituents for a month or so? Their are many of us that have mocked and taunted labour over Gordon Brown`s world tour since last election, the fact he is hardly ever seen speaking in the Chamber and the fact he has been paid quite a lot of money for doing so while neglecting his first job.

MPs complain that they are over worked and some even suggest they are underpaid (pull the other one, its got bells on it) , this will not go down well with voters and , in my opinion drag the reputation of our politics through the mud ( even more if possible), its a fact that Nadine herself acknowledges when she says

“‘I’m frightened of rats, but then again I do work with them.”

So my advice to Nadine is this, resign your seat before you enter the jungle as it is clear that you will not be able to fulfill your duties as an MP, that is your primary job.

Update

It seems the local paper is not going to abandon the local people

Unlike their MP....
